Blood serum containing the virus or bacteria is then taken from the animal and the modified or attenuated bacteria or virus is then injected into a person.
The body is supposed to respond by producing antibodies to the injected germs. If all goes well, and if the person is later exposed to the disease, the antibodies afford a measure of protection against becoming sick.The value of vaccination is a hotly debated topic among health authorities.
The conventional medical view is that vaccines have drastically reduced morbidity and mortality.Medical authorities point to the decreased incidence of smallpox, measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, influenza, and polio as evidence of the value of vaccines. 1)Vaccines can have serious side effects.
Promoters of vaccination admit that vaccination causes a small number of people to become sick.
However, they believe the risk is outweighed by the benefits. Opponents say that the benefits are exaggerated, and the risks are underestimated. While the side effects of vaccines are rarely reported, books have been written describing the side effects of vaccines.
Two such books are:The Poisoned Needle, and Murder by injection. These books are strongly recommended to anyone who is trying to decide whether or not to vaccinate.Side effects of vaccines range from malaise and flu-like symptoms to severe allergic reactions to the horse, monkey or other animal serum that is used in the manufacture of the vaccine.
Cases of permanent disability have been reported. The author worked in a polio clinic in Mexico City. The directors said that most of the cases were caused by administration of the polio vaccine.
Several researchers, including Robert Strecker, claim the AIDS epidemic was spread via contaminated batches of smallpox vaccine in Africa and contaminated hepatitis (B) vaccine administered in New York City.
If vaccines are as safe as claimed, why are manufacturers often unwilling to assume full liability for them?
Opponents say that vaccines do not strengthen, but may weaken the immune system by introducing poisons into the body. There is little data supporting the longterm safety of injecting foreign proteins into the bloodstream.
For example, there has been a great increase in auto-immune disease, cancer and leukemia in children and adults. It is possible that injecting foreign proteins into the body could increase the risk of these conditions later in life.
2) The benefits of vaccination are exaggerated.
In fact, they say, the incidence of the illnesses listed above was decreasing before the introduction of the vaccine. While this is not common knowledge, it is never-the-less true. It is documented in an article by J.B. and S.M. McKinlay in the Millbank Memorial Fund Quarterly, Summer 1977, pp. 405-428.
Graphs clearly show that the infectious diseases were all in decline before the vaccines were introduced.According to the paper, vaccination only accounts for about 4% of the decline of the infectious diseases.
Much more credit for improved health is due to advances in hygiene and sanitation, improved housing or better nutrition. These factors are commonly ignored in medical articles about vaccination.
The Center For Disease Control estimates that at least 10% of vaccinations do not take. For this group, vaccines offer no protection. In one study of states with comprehensive vaccination programs, between 61% and 90% of measles cases occurred in people who were appropriately vaccinated.
3) There are better methods to prevent and treat childhood diseases. Opponents say that most of the time, childhood diseases are benign.
If children are raised in a healthful manner, these illnesses do not pose a sufficient threat to justify the risks of vaccination.
Many times, they say, the deadly complications of diphtheria and polio occurred because the illnesses were treated incorrectly.
With proper treatment, the illness would be benign.
This is indeed my experience with these illnesses. Proper treatment may include vitamins, minerals, herbs, hydrotherapy or homeopathic remedies.
These are not part of conventional drug medicine. But should not these harmless methods be used first before giving a potentially toxic vaccine.
Nutritional Research and Childhood Diseases, Trace mineral research on thousands of children reveals that:
1). Specific tissue mineral imbalances are associated with increased susceptibility to infection. These imbalances include a low zinc level, an elevated copper, copper less than 1.0 mg%, a sodium-to-potassium ratio less than 2.5:1, or excessive levels of cadmium or mercury.
2). At least half the children whose hair minerals are tested reveal the indicators of an impaired immune system. 3). When the diet and the mineral imbalances are corrected, the susceptibility to infection declines dramatically.
In world research indicates that it is possible to strengthen resistance to infection through modern scientific nutritional methods. Deciding Whether To VaccinateThe decision whether or not to vaccinate obtain it at all. If the FDA plan to classify all may not be an easy one.
Parents may decide to vaccinate for certain diseases, but not others. But before making this decision, a more fundamental decision needs to be made. Parents need to decide whether to raise their children in a healthful manner.
This includes insisting upon breast-feeding, and then providing a wholesome diet, a healthful lifestyle and healthful emotional patterns in the home. In fact, the decision should be made before conception.
Such a decision would mean emphasizing healthful dietary and living practices for parents.
Toxic metal accumulations and other nutritional imbalances in the parents can be corrected before they are passed on to the children.
If parents choose this route, their children will be far less prone to illness. If their children contract an illness, they will tend to get well faster than children with poor eating habits and imbalanced body chemistry.
These parents may decide the possible benefits of vaccination are not worth the risks. Parents can also learn how to apply natural methods as soon as a child becomes ill.

Sponging or enemas are preferable to the use of aspirin for fever. Homeopathic remedies may also be helpful.

In the author's experience, most children raised in a healthy manner and treated correctly when ill are in little danger from infectious diseases.

Then it is up to each family to determine how to proceed. Government Surveillance of Vaccination Even if vaccination is beneficial, is it wise to set up a national surveillance net work?
Our government was formed to protect the rights and privacy of the people. This program invades privacy. It will also have to be paid for by higher taxes.
It is also subject to fraud and abuse, as are all such programs. It also weakens the family unit, as it implies that parents cannot or will make the best choices for their children.
The fact that vaccination is clouded in controversy makes setting up a surveillance network even more dubious. If you wish to contact your legislator, the bills that would set up the system are S.732 and S.733, and House Resolution 940.
If the government really wished to help prevent illness and improve the health of the nation's children, there are many ways other than free vaccinations.
For instance, how about assuring that all Americans retain their access to harmless health food products such as vitamins, minerals and herbs?
This year, the FDA plans to take 90% of them off the shelves. This occurred in Sweden and Norway, were a bottle of zinc that formerly cost $6.00 now sells for $45.00, if you can obtain it at all.
If the FDA plan to classify all supplements as drugs is successful, it will reduce the health of the people, and will eliminate thousands of legitimate jobs. How about a constitutional amendment guaranteeing freedom of choice of health care?
This would not cost tax payers a penny. However, it would nullify clauses in state medical practice acts that prevent alternative practitioners from offering health services.
It would increase access to care and lower health care costs by increasing competition. How about allowing all Americans to use laboratory services without a doctor's prescription?
This is the law in Mexico. This too would reduce costs and increase access to care.If our leaders were sincere about helping our health, they would stop the flow of billions of taxpayer dollars into drug research at government laboratories and universities.
This has been a very poor investment, judging the failure of the war on cancer and other costly programs. They would also stop government subsidies to drug medical schools.
This creates an unfair playing field where other healing schools that do not receive subsidies cannot compete fairly.Our leaders could also take a hard look at the Food and Drug Administration.
Assigned the task of protecting the American people, the FDA sanctions Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Cola Drinks and all the other junk food for children. Over 3000 food additives are approved.Meanwhile, the FEA has banned healthful herbs, vitamins and amino acids.
Gestapo style raids are carried out against physicians who practice unconventional healing methods, even though no crime has been committed.
The FEA also enjoys immense power through the media. Fighting the FDA is more costly than most manufacturers or doctors can afford. The FDA no longer serves the American people, and directly contributes to the poor health of many American children.Private certifying agencies, similar to Underwriters Laboratory, Consumer's Union and the Kosher certifying organizations, could replace many FDA functions.
They would cost the taxpayers less, and would do a far better job of certifying the healthfulness of our food products.Emphasizing vaccination as the way to prevent disease is at best a limited policy.
Setting up a big brother surveillance net-work to enforce vaccination is far worse. Benefits are dubious, and the cost to taxpayers is high. In the guise of protecting our children, more of our privacy rights will be violated.Vaccines may be beneficial in some instances.
However, other measures that are less risky and less costly would also greatly improve the health of our people.Permitting Americans to have access to the health care and practitioners of their choice, and stopping unfair regulation by agencies that no longer serve the people, are far more important than vaccination for the prevention of disease in America.
Vaccination Scandal Emerging Scandal in Vaccine Mandates by Phyllis Schlafly July 28,1999. A scandal in mandatory mass vaccinations of infants is beginning to surface.
Vaccine-caused injuries have just forced the Clinton bureaucrats to make four sensational announcements that bugle temporary retreat from their plans to force all American children to submit to government-dictated medical treatment.On July 15, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American academy of Pediatrics (AAP) halted the use of the oral rotavirus vaccine, which is given to infants to prevent one of the major causes of diahrea, after reports that the vaccine caused a bowel obstruction in some infants that required surgery to repair.
The bowel obstruction, called intus-susception, results when one portion of the bowel slides inward, like a telescope, into another part of the bowel and causes blockage.
A previously healthy infant suddenly screams in paroxysms of pain. In its initial trial, the rotavirus vaccine appeared to cause susception at 30 times the average rate, but the government pretended that those injuries were insignificant.
Instead of testing further, the CDC and the vaccine manufacturer subjected babies to more than a million doses of the unnecessary, expensive, and inadequately tested vaccine.
While the risk of intussusception may have been mentioned on the package insert, it was not on the vaccine information statement given to parents. The arbitrariness of government vaccine mandates is shown by the fact that, for the previous year, CDC was demanding that the vaccine be given to all infants, and now suddenly a CDC spokesman is saying,
"No one should be giving rotovirus vaccine to anyone."The second sensational vaccine announcement came on July 9, when the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) and the AAP issued a joint statement cancelling their previous recommendation to inject all newborns while they are still in the hospital with the hepatitis B vaccine. PHS and AAP now recommend that vaccination of newborns be limited to those who are at risk of getting hepatitis B from their infected mothers.
Their remarkable backtracking from the universal mandate for newborns must have resulted from the widespread publicity given to the many cases of vaccine damage causing lifetime injury or death reported on ABC's 20/20 and the May 18 hearing conducted by the U.S. House Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources.PHS and AAP continue to recommend the hepatitis B vaccine for infants at 2 to 6 months of age, even though few of them are at risk.
Meanwhile, 42 states require hepatitis B vaccine for schoolchildren, although teachers and health care workers are not required to receive it.
The legislator who sponsored the hepatitis B mandate in Ohio admitted that he did so at the request of a vaccine manufacturer lobbyist, while Governor Christine Whitman is trying to impose a New Jersey requirement administratively without legislation.
In another announcement the same day, PHS-AAP issued a joint statement that revealed the risk to children of vaccines containing mercury and called on the FDA to "assess the risk of all mercury-containing food and drugs.
"A mercury product called Thimerosol is used as a preservative in many vaccines, even though the FDA banned its use in over-the-counter products for safety reasons.
Under the current CDC schedule, most infants receive a total of 15 doses of mercury-containing vaccines by the time they are six months old, many given simultaneously.
The fact that the FDA has prohibited the use of thimerosol for most products, but continues to allow its use for vaccines, sounds like political corruption in the vaccine process.
The National Vaccine Information Center has been criticizing the use of mercury in vaccines for years.Contact lens solution bottles routinely advertise that they contain "no thimerosol", yet any damage to adults from contact lens solutions must be miniscule compared to the same product ingested or injected into infants.
The fourth announcement came on June 17, when government officials voted to withdraw their recommendation for the use of the live poliovirus vaccine, and to recommend the "exclusive" use of the inactivated poliovirus vaccine.
Since 1979, the only polio cases in the United States have been caused by the live vaccine because, taken by mouth, it travels through the child's body and can cause polio in a parent changing the diaper.
The unjustified delay in converting to the safer polio vaccine is due to the mandatory vaccination laws that require the public to use a certain product.
The government still demands that babies be given four doses of polio vaccine, even though, according to Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., "The Western Hemisphere was certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as polio free in 1994, and no case of polio has been reported in this region since 1991.
"We are long overdue for a Congressional investigation into the validity of research and licensing standards for vaccines, the results of clinical trials (if any), the motivations of the vaccine policymakers, and the lobbying activities of the cash-rich pharmaceutical corporations whose profits depend on universal mandates rather than on sales to those at risk for various diseases.

Shots in the dark - Hepititis B Shots in the Dark - Hepatitis B VaccineFrom "The American Spectator" By Tom Bethell" Lyla Rose Belkin was a lively, alert five-week-old baby when I last held her in my arms," said her father, Michael Belkin, a financial analyst in New York City. "Little did I imagine as she gazed into my eyes that she would die that night. At her final feeding she was agitated and feisty -- then fell asleep and didn't wake up. The autopsy ruled out choking. A swollen brain was the only abnormal finding. Most doctors I spoke to said it must have been Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, a catch-all diagnosis for unexplained death.
" This happened last September. For weeks, Belkin and his wife agonized over what they might have done differently. What he couldn't get out of his mind was that a few hours before Lyla's death, she had been inoculated with the Hepatitis B vaccine.
Most doctors he spoke to scoffed at the idea. The vaccine is safe, they said.
But he began his own investigation, and he became disturbed by what he found. He spoke to Bonnie Dunbar, a molecular biologist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Five years earlier, her brother had experienced multiple sclerosis-like symptoms following vaccination.
"His problems have been attributed to the Hepatitis B vaccine by over a dozen different specialists of unquestionable medical expertise," she testified before the Texas Public Health Board."He has now been rated permanently and totally impaired.
His health care has cost the state of Texas around half a million dollars to date. Then disaster struck again. A student in her lab, who was required to take the vaccine, went partially blind following her first booster injection, a medical condition that was exacerbated by her second booster which resulted in long-term hospitalization.
"Only a few years ago, Dr. Dunbar was honored by the National Institutes of Health for her vaccine work.Nonetheless, she began her testimony with this eye-opener:
"I am not here today as an official representative of Baylor College of Medicine but as a concerned citizen of Texas and the United States.
In fact, I am sure that some of my colleagues would not approve of my appearance.Especially those that are benefiting handsomely from pharmaceutical company income as consultants and expert witnesses while carrying out vaccine clinical trials.
"Merck & Co. derives $900 million per annum from vaccine sales.
Its Hepatitis B vaccine is the first in the country to use recombinant DNA technology.
Since 1991, Hepatitis B inoculations have been given routinely to infants in the US, and 36 states now require that a series of three shots be given to infants as a condition of attending school.
Although many are now getting the vaccine, hardly anyone in the general population is at risk for the disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta says that in 1996 a total of 10,637 cases of the disease were reported in the US, of whom 279 were below age 14.
In 90 percent of cases, antibodies are naturally produced and after a flu-like illness the patient recovers and is immune for life. To drum up a Hepatitis B scare, and justify the massive vaccination program, the CDC has arbitrarily multiplied the number of reported cases by 20, using the argument that most go undiagnosed.
The general population is not at risk for Hepatitis B.
The profile of those who are is similar to those at risk for AIDS.
CDC identifies the hepatitis risk groups as: drug addicts, homosexuals and heterosexuals with multiple partners, children of immigrants from certain areas, health-care workers, and infants born to infected mothers.
So how come everyone is urged to get the vaccination, including newborns, and why are statehealth departments playing along, agreeing that children can't go to school if they don't get their shots?
The CDC explains that it has "generally not been feasible" to identify people "engaged in high-risk behaviors.
"Instead, the agency recommended "making hepatitis B vaccine a part of routine vaccination schedules for infants."
In other words, the risk of adverse events must be borne by innocent infants, who can be singled out on the maternity wards, because the sex and drug addicts can't be expected to identify themselves.
Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and a practicing physician, commented:"It's outrageous to be forcing this upon children, the great majority of whom are not at risk.But all are at risk of adverse reactions to the vaccine.
"She doesn't recommend the shots for those not in risk groups."I am horrified by what I am seeing on this issue," said Baylor's Dr. Dunbar."I can't believe this is happening in this country."
"Public health" is being used as a rationale to undermine individual responsibility and to legitimize intrusion on family autonomy.
Several times I phoned Sidney Wolfe of the Naderite Health Research Group, not normally one to sit still for drug-company profiteering.
But there was no call back from him on this issue.life-threatening.
The FDA has also said that as many as 90 percent of such reactions are never reported at all, so we should multiply these totals by ten.Michael Belkin estimates that, in addition to his own daughter.
It is believed that the genetically engineered vaccine sometimes confuses the body's immune system into attacking itself.
Many of the responses resemble multiple sclerosis.
The bad effects may unfold over weeks. One scandalous feature of this vaccine is that the drug companies used safety studies that monitored children only for four or five days after vaccination.
Now, a long-term study of the effects on nurses (who must get the shots) is underway. Shouldn't legislatures at least wait for the results before they make shots compulsory?
The problem is that most legislators, like mostjournalists, are cowed by assertions of medical expertise, and by threats that any delay will jeopardize the nation's health.
The New York Times in particular has acted as an uncritical conveyer-belt from the CDC to the general public.
One politician who has stood firm is New Jersey's Christie Todd Whitman. She refused to sign into law a mandate rushed to her desk by gullible legislators. In France, a similar mandate was rescinded last October because doctors saw what was happening, sued.
Having studied FDA's reports of adverse reactions in infants, CDC concluded that there were "no unexpected events.
"A leaked internal CDC memo suggests otherwise.
A meeting at the agency in 1997 discussed"possible association" between the vaccine and MS and recommended a "case control study" with 60 days as a "reasonable time limit to use for the onset of MS post-vaccination.
"(Five days were enough to get the vaccine approved.) Another CDC claim, that "studies show that these side effects are reported no more frequently among those vaccinated than among persons not receiving vaccine," cited only references dated ten years before the vaccine was available.
Thus is science put at the disposal of politics.
An Institute of Medicine report refutes CDC's claim.At least 100 published reports by physicians have attributed serious adverse effects to the vaccine.
The truth is that CDC is a political agency which has become accustomed to disseminating public-health scares as a way of protecting and expanding its budget.
Not for nothing was "Prevention" added to its title.
State health departments have a budgetary interest in mandating shots.
According to Barbara Fisher of the National Vaccine Information Center in Vienna, Virginia, amendments to the Childhood Immunization Act of 1993 gave states financial incentives to set up tracking registries, and a "performance-based grant program," offered up to $100 a head depending on the number of shots delivered.
"A bounty is put on children's heads," Fisher said.
***"Our children now get 33 doses of ten different vaccines by kindergarten; our grandparents got only one -- smallpox.
The CDC hasn't yet done the studies showing whether all these shots are safe."Marian Wright Edelman, where are you now that we need you?Recently, John F. Modlin, professor of pediatrics and medicine at Dartmouth and chairman of the CDC's Advisory Committee on ImmunizationPractices, debated the issue at the University of New Hampshire with Burton A.
**Waisbren, an immunologist from Milwaukee.Michael Belkin took along a chart showing that, in New Hampshire alone, the 48 reported adverse reactions to the vaccine in children aged 0 to 10 in recent years were 16 times greater than the number of cases of disease (3).
There were four times as many child deaths (11) as there were cases of disease.
Those shocking figures show how out of control thevaccination program has become.Modlin said the critics were "uninformed," and flippantly suggested that attributing deaths to the vaccine was like blaming automobile accidentson the Cheerios antecedently consumed.
"Whatever you do," he said, "don't let somebody try to tell you that Hepatitis B is uncommon because only 11,000 cases were reported in this country.
"In fact, he added, "I don't care" how many reported cases there are. "What's probably more accurate is extrapolated data." By which he means "hypothetical.
"It's as unscientific to deny causation, without investigation, as it is to assert it.
**Meanwhile, Modlin should disclose the financial relationship between the drug companies benefiting from his indulgence and the ongoing research at Dartmouth Medical School.
In response to a question, he allowed that there was such a connection.
"Scientists are increasingly supported by for-profit companies," the Wall Street Journal recently reported, "but a new study shows that critical fact is seldom revealed in published research.
"This is especially true in the medical field.
In his response, Burton A. Waisbren said that "the first thing that should be done is we should stop universal Hepatitis B vaccination.
"He added that "doctors, hospitals and scientists who [support this vaccination program] should be held responsible legally.
If all else fails, I think there is going to be a congressional investigation.
*** "Without quite reaching his question, he asked: "How could an executive in a pharmaceutical company that made a billion dollars out of this experiment, and the director of a government agency impose an experiment -- they talk about a strategy -- this is an experiment".
Because," he added, "they don't know if this is going to help the situation".
"The forum organizer, Gerhard Bedding, is circulating a petition to rescind the mandate in New Hampshire.He describes the modern medical attitude as: "Here comes this poor unprotected baby. We need to get at it immediately to give it the benefit of our protection.
"It reminds him of the "Kill all the bugs!" outcry of the 1950's.
